Thanks for highlighting. I have long been warning against the simplistic ranking measures. To add to your critique of US News, much of it data excludes international students, potentially a large chunk of a university, and students who particularly use the rankings. https://www.insidehighered.com/opinion/views/2023/10/30/us-news-rankings-erase-international-students-opinion

Ryan, thanks for sharing that link. How we value, and how we evaluate, the educational services we provide to international students is an important question. While serving as Dean I had many conversations with (US-based) alumni who were skeptical about the large number of international students we serve. I think its pretty clear that international students are a boon to university finances, and if integrated thoughtfully into the student experience, a tremendous opportunity for domestic students to learn about distinct cultures and perspectives. Given all this value, how well we serve them in reaching their educational and career goals is something universities should take seriously. And international students should have much better information about which universities will serve them well.
